Well, I had a phone interview with a well known search company the other day. It was an interesting experience. Before the call, I was gearing up to get drilled with project management questions. I had to quickly change gears since I was asked by the recruiter to go over a few technical questions.
I was told the position requires some technical expertise. I was asked about a dozen technical questions. Overall, I did ok. I answered most of the questions. I may have missed one or two which I tried to BS my way around to it. They were tough especially when caught by surprise. Here’s the list of questions:
What’s an ARP?
What’s your favorite shell? Why?
What’s the daemon that gives you an automatic IP address?
What’s the Unix command to search for an IP address?
How do you edit a file in CVS?
How many bits are in an octet or in an IP address?
How do you find an IP address on a Windows XP?
I can’t remember all, but definately a very interesting set of questions. I’m very surprised that I was not asked one project management question at all. I’m waiting for a follow-up from them. Stay tuned.
