I purchased a Nokia 6800 cellphone via AT&T Wireless along with a 2 year contract back in March. I found out much later that the phone is locked to AT&T network only.
What a bummer! I need to use a different sim card (a foreign sim card) when I travel, so I called AT&T Wireless to ask for the code to remove the restriction. Unfortunately, the wireless provider does not have the code and neither does the manufacturer Nokia. I found this hard to believe.
Both companies refuse to give me this information. I understand why from the business perspective since they want to prevent people from using other providers especially when travelling overseas. They want you to use their services abroad expensive as it may be. So, I went to the net and scoured for information regarding unlocking phones.
Guess what! I found a software that provides you the code. Hehe… All you need to do is to provide the IMEI # of the phone, your location, and the service provider. The software gives you 7 potential codes. The website recommended that I use code #7 first and then #1 if it doesnt work. Well, #7 did the trick. It was such a delight seeing the words “Phone restriction off!” Yeah!!
hey what is up, i have a nokia 6800 and well i wanna use it for my t-mobile, but i cant since the restriction code not working. i checked a lot of places but if u can, can u send me the address to were u found ur solution cuss i dont feel like buyin another phone..thanks man…omar
please help me with the info my phone is locked too and it sucks, thanks!!!!
I actually created a page detailing what needs to be done to unlock certain phones. I hope it works for you. Good luck. http://ulyssesonline.com/cell/
Personally if I am travelling for more than a week in a country i find it easier to just buy a local sim card to use whilst in the country, most places they are inexpensive and it saves on high costs.
what if i dont have an IMEI? we got this phone from a friend and all he sent was the phone… no manual or nothing. What should i do?
This post was a while back. I’ve went throught 3 phones since then. Most phones let you view the IMEI from the display. Check your manual. If not, it could be inside the phone.
