Yes, make the following changes to the original stylesheet:

#page { width: 960px; }
#footer { width: 960px; }
#sidebar { margin-left: 745px; }
.narrowcolumn { width: 650px; }

Is there a way to make Black-Letterhead 1.6.1 default to the wide (960) pixels version when a user lands of the page without forcing the user to use the preferences link at the bottom?

If you want to apply the Theme Toolkit to version 1.6.1, you can start by downloading Black-Letterhead 1.4 with the Theme Toolkit.

1. Copy the themetoolkit.php and rotate.php files to the 1.6.1 folder.
2. Open up the 1.4 functions.php and add it to functions.php of 1.6.1.
3. Open up the 1.4 header.php and copy the first line to the header.php of 1.6.1.
4. Also copy the following functions in header.php to the header.php of 1.6.1.
There are 5 lines of code starting with
<?php blackletterhead_sidebar(); ?>

I see the Theme Toolkit was not included with the newest version of black-letterhead 1.6.1. I tried placing the 1.4 version Theme Toolkit into the 1.6.1 root directory, but Wordpress is not recognizing (displaying) the Toolkit in the 1.6.1 newest update.

Any idea how to get Theme Toolkit working with the new update?

Ulysses,

I've deactivated post comments. Yet each post appears with a "Leave a comment" link that leads to the post page and a note that comments are closed. Is there a way to eliminate the "Leave a comment" link on posts for which comments are closed? In my case that would be all posts. Thanks.

I'm supposed to paste some code someplace so Google can track me, but I can't for the life of me figure out where it is supposed to go - please help!! (I need step-by-step instructions specifically for this theme, because I tried to follow Google's instructions and couldn't find anywhere the </body> marker to which they were referring.)

Okay, I uploaded your sidebar.php minus the
<h2>Preferences ← click</h2>
line (I don't want theme changing). I have not tested it in IE7 yet (I am on a Mac) but I will. If you have access to it faster, give it a shot.

I am probably pasting this wrong or something, but when I do, it moves everything within the footer to the right and out of the "box" so to speak. It does this in Firefox and Safari. I'm 99.9% sure it's me pasting it incorrectly, though, and not your code. I assume it goes in the Sidebar.php file, right? Where do I start in terms of replacing the code, and what do I "past over" and where do I stop?

Thanks again.

Atlas,

Thanks for pointing out the display issue with IE7. Yes, I checked it and sure enough, IE 7 was not rendering the HTML code correctly. Safari and Firefox were just fine. I thought it was a missing closing div at first, but it turned out to be an issue with IE 7 using this format
<li><h2></h2></li>.
Hmmm. Still scratching my head about that one. That's a valid code.

Anyways, I will release 1.6.1 in a few days. In the meantime, here is the code. The first line just adds a break statement if the browser is IE. Again, IE behaves erratically. I hate working with IE. :) You always have to put some kind of trick to make it display properly.

In addition, notice
<h2>
is no longer encapsulated with
<li>.

<?php if (isset($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']) && (strpos($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'], 'MSIE') !== false)) { ?><br /><?} else {} ?>

The footer information does not display correctly in IE7. It is placed at the bottom of the page, instead of within the proper paginated area.

Here is how it looks in IE:

http://www.oldfishandlemonade.com/blh_ie.png

And here is the correct display from Safari (which also displays properly in Firefox):

http://www.oldfishandlemonade.com/blh_safari.png

I thought maybe I screwed something up because I modified the stylesheet, but these grabs are from your site. It's a minor thing, really, and more of an annoyance than anything. If you are able to fix it, please post the necessary code so I can paste it into my stylesheet as well (if that is, indeed, where the bug lies).

Thanks much.

Did you change the code for the size of the reply box on your site? You only have 5 or 6 pixels of space between replies on your threaded comments, but I am getting a lot more space on mine (about the size of a medium gravatar). Any ideas what would be causing this?

You can see an example here:
Also how do you get pages under a parent page NOT to all show nav bar - do I have to turn something on or off.
Site is more a site than blog so lots of pages.
Thanks in advance

I guess I have to delete both lines in the header.php:

<script type="text/javascript" src="<?php bloginfo('template_directory'); ?>/js/styleswitcher.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="<?php bloginfo('template_directory'); ?>/js/motionpack.js"></script>

I think it's working.. I didnt remove the rotate.php in the css file.
As far as I can see it's only for the rotating header image. I dont mind about that, I only have one. Didn't want to remove that, I might use it in the future.

Ramon, The changes are located in three files: header.php, sidebar.php and style.css. Remove the alternate stylesheets and the javascript in header.php. Remove rotate.php in style.css. Finally, remove the Preferences link in sidebar.php. That's it. :)

Hi
Sorry, I know it is still hot and new, but I already want to remove things :D
It's the Change color/theme width feature. It's nice, but not what I want.

Is there a way to remove it (completely) without destroying the rest ?

Thanks in advance,

If you have placed header images in your theme and would like to turn off the header and description text, there is a simple way of taking off the header and description text without deleting code in header.php. Here's the CSS code to suppress the text in the header section.

h1 {
display:none;
padding-top: 40px;
margin: 0;
}

.description {
display:none;
text-align: center;
}

Giorgio,

I have a the latest version up and running on my Black-Letterhead site now. The threaded comments works great. I also included legacy comments so the latest theme will also work with older versions of WordPress. I'll test the latest version for a couple of days before releasing it. Thanks.

Hi,

I have Black Letterhead 1.5 on wordpress 2.7: http://giorgio-photos.com/wordpress/
I have enabled under the wordpress setting the threaded comments but nothing happen, i just have the standard "Leave e reply" dialog but not the "Reply" link under the comment. Can i check something in the code to verify this feature is correctly enable?

Thanks

I love this theme and want to continue using it, but it is not currently listed as one of the themes which is compatible with WordPress 2.7, or WordPress 2.6 for that matter, and I would like to upgrade. My site is not hosted by WordPress.com, if that matters. Please help!

Colb,

I just realized you're probably hosted at WordPress.com. The folks at WordPress.com added the custom header feature for this theme. Unfortunately, you can only edit CSS, not the code at WordPress.com. They do this for security reasons. I think the custom code crops the header image to fit 760x200 dimension. Sorry about that. There's not much you can do at this point, unless you're hosted somewhere else where you have complete freedom of your blog.
