I just released Black-Letterhead 1.4. There are no major changes in the theme. I just cleaned up the code a little bit and added the much needed Tags, a feature since WordPress 2.3 was released. I’m making two versions available for download, one with the Theme Toolkit and the other without it.

What’s the difference?

The Theme Toolkit allows you to customize the Black-Letterhead Theme with ease. You can change theme colors, use two different widths either default or wide, switch sidebars from right to left, and add header images, or rotate multiple header images.

If you like to hack and modify the Black-Letterhead Theme, I suggest you download the default Black-Letterhead. The Theme Toolkit adds a level of complexity when customizing the theme.

As always, the theme can be downloaded from the Download Page.

Black-Letterhead 1.3

Black-Letterhead 1.3 is now available for download. The latest version comes Widget ready just like the previous version. Version 1.3 uses the WordPress Theme Toolkit allowing authors to create Admin menus for customizing their themes. The latest features with version 1.3 include the ability to:

Select sidebar location: left or right.
Select between two page widths: narrow and wide.
Select whether to use header images or no header images.
Ability to support rotating or random headers.
Ability to modify theme colors such as main text, links and titles.

All these features are available from the Theme’s Configuration Panel. Give it a try. Download the latest from here.

If you like to move the sidebar location from right to left, just modify a couple of lines of code in style.css. Here’s the code:

That’s it. The sidebar should be on the left side of the page now.

Black-Letterhead theme version 1.2 is now available. This is the latest version which works with the latest and greatest WordPress Widgets. With widgets, you can now move content in and out of the sidebar area by simply dragging and dropping widget elements. How cool is that? I’ve decided to make the latest version of the Black-Letterhead theme available to anyone. I’m currently using the theme on my website. With the new version, I have fixed many bugs, cross-browser issues, and other fixes I’ve already mentioned here before. I’ve incorporated all of them and called it Black-Letterhead 1.1 version.

What’s new with version 1.1?

The ‘body’ background color is now #333 (dark grey) instead of #000 (black). #333 gives more emphasis to the page and content area than the previous version.
I’ve changed the font style of the ‘title’ for the post, page, etc. This is ‘h2′ and ‘h3′ to those intimate with CSS. The font is now ‘Palatino Linotype.’ To me, it looks much better because the font is now bigger and fatter than the original.
The horizontal lines were change from the color grey to #777. The word ‘grey’ was causing the horizontal lines to disappear in IE.
I’ve added a ’screenshot.png’ image to work with the new Dashboard for WordPress 2.0 and higher.
I’ve added a Guestbook template. It’s a Page with comments. To make a Guestbook, just create a new page and call it Guestbook. Apply the Guestbook template to the page. That’s it.
I modified the navigation links when in a single page mode.
I’ve added spaces between the “Edit | Comments” after each post. The Edit link only appears if the Admin is logged in.
I fixed the image margin problems. There is now a margin of 7px all around images inside a post.
The new theme validates to W3C and CSS standards.
The footer alignment problem has been fixed.
Certain sections of the the calendar had white backgrounds. This is now fixed.
The comment and search areas have been dimmed.
Cleanup of CSS.

Comment and Search Areas

I have decided to dim the searchbar and the comment areas since I felt they were too bright for the theme. I feel the new color scheme will match the overall theme better. The original colors were #A0A0A0. They have now been set to #333333. To add contrast, the foreground had to be changed to #B0B0B0. The following CSS code changes are listed below. The latest changes have been added in the latest download file.

Calendar background fix

Drew of http://isall.org pointed out to me that certain areas of the calendar that’s located in the sidebar are displaying a white background when you rollover a mouse. It looks like I forgot to change the background color of the ï¿½td.pad:hoverï¿½ attribute in CSS. To correct the problem, just edit the “style.css” file and change the background-color to black. There’s a sample code below.

Minor CSS Changes to Footer Section

I noticed in the original Black-Letterhead theme, the footer section didn’t exactly line up with the rest of the layout. So, I made some minor changes to CSS to correct this. This code fixes the layout problem for Firefox users, but not IE. If you have a fix for IE, please let me know.

I also added (20px) in the “body” to add footer space for IE users.

Adding a Header Image
