Internet Explorer at 60%

Here’s the latest browser market share according to Net Applications:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer: 60%
  • Mozilla Firefox: 25%
  • Google Chrome: 6.7%
  • Apple Safari: 4.7%
  • Opera: 2.3%

IE still has sizeable command of market, but it’s shrinking rapidly. It could be worse. Microsoft relishes on the fact that IE is included in every Windows OS product. To get Firefox and Chrome, you really have to get out of your way to download and install it. Safari is also standard in every Mac, but it’s also available in Windows.

  1. This comes as no surprise to me. MS have been trailing in the browser market for years as far as features and security are concerned and people are starting to realize it. Firefox and now Chrome have been way ahead of IE for a while and this is all MS deserve for being lazy with thei browser.

Exactly the same thing happened with their inability to innovate and move forward with their Windows Mobile software for smartphones…

Still, I love my Xbox 360!

    1. I agree. Ditto with the Xbox 360. I’m sure you’ve heard all of the talks about HTML 5 and H.264 standard video compression and the future browser implications. I’m not exactly sure how it will play out, but it will be interesting.
