WordPress 2.8.1

Fresh from the press! WordPress 2.8.1 was released just a few minutes ago. I just happened to look up and my Dashboard says, “WordPress 2.8.1 available! Please update now.” It’s time to put to test my upgrade shell script which was conceived during the last WordPress upgrade. It’s never been tested with an actual upgrade. I have been waiting for this moment.

What’s new with WordPress 2.8.1? Aesthetically, nothing really! You won’t see any changes. Most of the fixes in WordPress 2.8.1 were done to fix security holes, reduce memory usage, problems with the rich text editor, automatic upgrade script, upload and auto-save errors. Here’s a list of fixes.

The script worked like a charm. 5 WordPress installs in less than a minute. Sweet!! I couldn’t be happier.

Thank you for this entry. I pressed the upgrade button on mine; ten minutes later, I still get nothing except a message that Wordpress is trying to read from my server. I dare not stop it in case it crashes the entire system altogether.
It’s good to know that it should take a minute. I might stop the process now and just grit my teeth for any negative consequences. I guess it’s tested with some set-ups, but clearly not all.

Jack, I didn’t upgrade WordPress using the automatic upgrade button. I’m using my own shell script which works in conjunction with Subversion. I have 5 WordPress instances to install and I’m doing the same process, so I automated it to simplify the whole process. The upgrade took less than 1 minute for all 5 WordPress instances. I was pretty happy with the turnout to say the least. Good luck with your upgrade issue. Visit the WordPress forums for help.

Thank you for clarifying that: I should have read your original post more clearly. I’m going to have to read about your script in a bit more detail in that case!
