Hayward Teacher Strike Over
Hayward teachers can now go back to work after a 10 day strike. The teachers were demanding a 16% salary increase while school officials offered only 2.2% saying a huge increase could bankrupt the school district. With the tentative agreement, teachers can go back to work where only a third of 22,000 students have been showing up in school during the strike. With the concession pending vote today, I’m guessing the two parties agreed at a number somewhere in the middle like 8%. That’s my guess. Is it worth it? At least, the salary increase covered the 10 day strike which by the way was without pay.
