Stuck In A Plane

Being stuck in a plane on a tarmac is not a pleasant experience. Eleven hours on the tarmac is a very long time. This happened to me. Not once, but twice. Well, my ordeal was not quite eleven hours, but you’ll get my drift. The first experience was on a fully loaded international flight. The plane developed engine problems while taxing down the runway. So, the pilot decided to take the plane inside the hanger while mechanics work on the engine. Four hours later, we departed. The worst part of it all, the flight took another fifteen hours to cross the Pacific.

The second experience was not so bad. I spent two hours at the Indianapolis airport sitting on the tarmac (not at the gate) after the pilot determined we couldn’t land in Chicago O’Hare because of snow. It was Christmas eve and the plane ran out of food after a four hour flight from San Francisco. We finally left Indianapolis and arrived in Chicago after another forty-five minute ride. Of course, I missed my connecting flight. I had to stay overnight in Chicago. What’s worst? The girl right next to me, her final destination was Indianapolis. She had to fly back to Chicago and then catch a plane back to Indianapolis.
