Watching iPod Videos On Your TV
If you want to watch your iPod videos on your big screen TV, you’ll need an Apple proprietary AV cable. Well, at least that’s what Apple is saying. The truth is, you don’t need a proprietary AV cable from Apple that will cost you $19.95. Any AV Camcorder cable will do provided it has a 3 plug RCA jacks on one end and 3-banded 3.5 mm plug on the other. You can get one at eBay for a measly $2.99. Add $3 for shipping and you got yourself a cable for a total of just $5. Why pay more! See the picture of the cable.
Before you connect the cables, set your iPod video settings to the following:
1. Set TV Out to ON.
2. Set TV Signal to NTSC for US or PAL for Europe.
3. Set Widescreen to ON,
Connect Your AV Cable to your TV
1. Plug the Red RCA plug to the Yellow RCA plug on your TV.
2. Plug the Yellow RCA plug to the White RCA plug on your TV.
3. Plug the White RCA plug to the Red RCA plug on your TV.
For some reason, the colors of the RCA jacks of the cable I received were correct. There is no need to swap color connections as I mentioned above. The RCA jacks plug straight through, meaning red to red, yellow to yellow, and white to white. Weird.
Erica Sadun writes in detail how to connect your iPod video to your TV set.
That’s it. Enjoy the show.
