Italian League

Three teams have been demoted from Serie-A, the top Italian league, to Serie-B, the second-tier league as a result of the match-fixing scandal that has rocked the Italian league this past year. Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina have been relegated to Serie B while AC Milan avoided relagation, but it will start the season with a 15 point defecit.

An additional 44 points were taken from AC Milan in the 2005-06 season. Juventus was stripped of its two titles the past two seasons and will start the campaign in Serie B 30 points down. Fiorentina will start 12 points down while Lazio will be 7 points down. The points deducted from each team is a form of punishment to make it harder for teams to get promoted or win championships. Club directors were also punished. The worst of all will be the exodus of players from these teams. Half of the Italian team that just recently won the World Cup played for the Juventus, Fiorentina and Lazio clubs. Italian captain Cannavaro is rumored to be going to Real Madrid. This is not good for Italian football which was considered by many as the top football league in the world.
