Argentina 2 - Ivory Coast 1

Argentina scored the first two goals of the match. Hernan Crespo pounced on a bouncing ball inside the 6 yard box after Ivory Coast defenders failed to clear out a corner kick. The second goal was created by Javier Requilme, the Argentinian playmaker, who worked his magic by threading a pass between two placid Ivory Coast defenders. Javier Saviola perfectly timed his run and slotted the ball underneath the outstretched arms of the Ivory Coast keeper. Didier Drogba scored on the 89th minuted to cut the Argentinian lead to half. Prior to the goal, I thought Drogba was fouled inside the box and should have been awarded a penalty kick, but there was a no-call from the referee. Ivory Coast was dormant for most of the match except for the last 20 minutes when they started to push players up. I thought Ivory Coast played well enough, but had some defensive lapses which resulted in goals for Argentina. It could have been a tied game if the foul on Drogba was called.

  1. Thank God this game was entertaining, unlike boring England who think they’ll win the World Cup, just like they envisaged in 1970, 1974, 1978, 1982, 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002….

  2. Gallivanter,

Hey, get some sleep. It’s our time to be awake this time around. Four years ago, I was doing the same thing you’re doing now when the World Cup was in Korea/Japan. I lasted about four days watching games at 4:00am. I just taped the games and viewed them later. The tournament so far, so good.
