Electrical Tape

Who would have thought? I have been having laptop problems lately with my Fujitsu S6210. Here’s some early postings: 1, 2, 3. I searched high and low for what’s been causing the problem. Well, apparently I didn’t search high enough. As it turns out, I read in this forum that several people have had the same issue.

One guy wrote,

According to PortableOne’s employee who fixed my computer, there’s a known issue. Some components on the motherboard protrude to such an extent, that when the casing of the laptop is flexed in a certain way, it will cause the computer to crash. In the newer models, this issue is addressed with electrical tape on the casing of the laptop in order to not allow conduction in certain points where these components protrude. On a lighter note, PortableOne replaced my motherboard and applied this electrical tape, and the problems have not reoccurred.

I guess, I’m on my way to the hardware store to buy electrical tape. What color should I get? Black, red, yellow, orange or blue. I can’t believe it, it has come down to electrical tape to cure my computer woes. Thanks, Fujitsu.

So, I found an electrical tape in the house. I wrapped the hard drive with electrical tape once. The fit is bit snug now after re-attaching the drive. I powered and did the old flex test. I think that did it! The laptop is not crashing anymore. Woohoo! I love cheap solutions.
