It involves flipping the values of the #sidebar and .narrowcolumn in CSS. If you're not familiar with CSS, then it can get a bit complicated sometimes. Also, it involves moving the sidebar function on several template files ahead of the content. This means placing the sidebar function after the header instead of being next to the footer section. If I have some extra time in the future, I can work on it. I actually have never done it before, but I know it's possible. I hope this gives you an idea how to get started.
