Maverick Surf Contest
The Maverick Surf Contest is officially on tomorrow as contest director Jeff Clark has called the contest to start Tuesday, February 8, at 8:00am. A solid ground swell is heading towards Northern California. Mavericks is expecting 20-30 foot faces with a slight sideshore wind.
At the moment, the same storm is causing a high surf advisory warnings in the northern Hawaiian beaches. Deep water bouys are recording swell heights of 5.8 at 12 seconds. Another bouy is recording 7.8 at 23 seconds from 300 degrees.
Who is competing? Anthony Tashnick, Greg Long, Tyler Smith, Zach Wormhoudt, Shane Desmond, Matt Ambrose, Brock Little, Ryan Seelbach, Ryan Augenstein, Evan Slater, Eraldo Gueiros, Shawn Rhodes, Randy Cone, Grant Washburn, Darryl Virostko, Kenny Collins, Peter Mel, Nathan Fletcher, Mike Gerhardt, Grant Baker, Josh Loya, Danilo Couto, Russell Smith and Alex Martins.
Total Prize: A total of $55,000.
1st Place: $30,000, a REACTOR watch, Champion of the 2006 Mavericks Surf Contest.
2nd Place: $10,000
3rd Place: $5,000
4th Place: $4,000
5th Place: $3,500
6th Place: $2,500
