Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day is a tradition where one must observe a groundhog burrow on February 2. If the groundhog emerges and fails to see its shadow, then winter will soon end. If the groundhog sees its own shadow, then we have six more weeks of winter.

It’s kind of a silly tradition. I guess anything to amuse yourself in the dead of winter. If the prognostication is indeed true, then we don’t even need a groundhog to determine the weather for the next six weeks.

You, yes you. That’s right, you can become the virtual groundhog by getting out of your house and looking for your own shadow. Now, that would look really silly. So, it’s best to leave it to the groundhog.

Meteorology students know that winter officially ends six weeks from start of February. So, no matter what, winter will be around for six more weeks. Now, whether the weather (haha, I like the sound of that) will be a harsh or mellow is the ultimate question.

Usually bright, clear weather in North America is associated with very cold temperatures. So, pray for overcast days in the next couple of days. If you live in California, then it doesn’t really matter.
