Wayne for Today
I’m Wayne today. One of the joys of ordering food or coffee is being asked for your name. I have an unique name which I’m sure you already figured out by now. The problem is people don’t always know how to spell it. The last few years I have been using my middle name Ray — short for Raymond because I got tired of spelling out my firstname everytime I order food.
Today, Baja Fresh asked for my name which I gladly said it was Ray. She must not have heard me clearly because she repeated Wayne. I heard it, but didn’t bother correcting her. I said, why make a big fuss for a burrito?
So, that’s how I became Wayne today. I can’t see myself being Wayne, but it was fun being someone else for a couple of seconds.

Oddly enough, I know exactly what you are talking about, and this came up New Year’s night for me…
I was at a friend’s and I made reservations for dinner under the name “Chuck”. It’s the name I always use when I give a (disposable, I guess) name at a place like Taco Bell or, of course, dinner reservations.
Apparently my friend didn’t know this about me and he thought that I was just messing around with him and intended to use my real name when I entered the resaurant or something.
To make an already much too long story short, he tried to write “Chuck” on my forhead with a black permanent marker. I guess so I could feel what it’s really like to be a Chuck?
