Favicons
You probably noticed the tiny icons that show up on the address bar of your browser everytime you visit a popular website such as Yahoo or ESPN. The icons are hard to miss since they are right there inside the address bar staring you in the face. It’s even more apparent when you bookmark a page. Your browser uses the icon as part of the bookmark.
I’ve decided to change my favicon from a small picture of me to a much a smaller and much simplier uppercase letter “U” in a blue font. So, how do you make a favicon? Well, you will need a Graphics program such as PhotoShop or PaintShopPro to create an image the size of 16 x 16 pixels. Design your icon by cropping an existing image or using simple text. Next, save the file in a gif format and rename it to “favicon.ico.”
Finally, upload the file to the root directory of your web server. You may have to clear your browser’s cache to see the changes take effect. If you are still not seeing the icons, your browser may not support favicons, then you can either upgrade to the latest or find another browser that supports favicons.
