We Need Standards
If you own a PC, PDA, digital camera, cellular phone, MP3 player or any electronic gadget, you probably have several memory cards in your possesion. Two years ago, I bought a 5 in 1 card reader. Today, there are 15 to 1 card readers available in the market.
Why so many memory cards? Do consumers really need this many? It seems to me every electronic manufacturer out there have their own proprietary memory card. Wouldn’t it be great if there’s just one memory card for all electronic devices.
Just imagine being able to use one memory card for the PC, PDA, cellular phone and MP3 player. Having a memory standard in the electronic and computing industry will simplify interoperability between devices which would greatly benefit consumers.
I understand how a free market works and how consumers are better off with a plethora of products and choices, but having standards would also benefit consumers. We are not asking too much. The last thing we need is 75 to 1 card reader five years down the line.
