Longboarded Today
I saw a spike in the wave height reports on the internet last night. The bouys were showing 8.1 feet at 13 seconds. So, I’ve decided to go out today and take off the dust off my surfboard literally. The board of choice, my Pope Bisect 9′4″ Harbour Banana. Why use the longboard? Well, it has been close to six months since I surfed last.
I usually take out my longboard to get my feet wet again if haven’t surfed in a while. The longboard is a good way to get my arms back in shape. Sure enough, I felt the burn today even before I caught a wave. My paddling sucks right now.
I forgot how cold it is out there. The water temperature in Monterey Bay is a balmy 48 degrees Fahrenheit. Five hours later, I’m still feel cold even after 30 minutes in treadmill in the gym.
I got one fairly long ride today - a good 150 yards. The paddle back to the lineup was a tough one especially going against the current. I saw several guys walking back to the point instead of paddling.
I like longboarding. I just don’t like carrying the boards. My favorite is a 6′4″ Channel Islands Flyer. It’s small, light and compact. It’s much easier to carry. It’s going to be a couple more sessions before I get back on the shortboard.
