US Soccer
With the World Cup just around the corner, it’s time to take a closer look at US Mens National Team. The US team is refreshingly comprised of a mixture of veterans and youngsters. The following players have the legitimate shot in making the US World Cup roster.
Leading the veteran fixtures are Kasey Keller (36) appearing on his third World Cup. Brian McBride (33), Claudio Reyna (32), Eddie Lewis (31), Gregg Berhalter (32) and Frankie Hejduk (31). There are numerous players between the ages of 25-30, but I will not mention them here in this article.
On the youthful side, the United States has a lot of upside. These are many talented players who are 23 years old and younger: DaMarcus Beasley (23), Ricardo Clark (22), Bobby Convey (22), Clint Dempsey (22), Landon Donovan (23), Eddie Gaven (19), Eddie Johnson (21), Justin Mapp (21), Chad Marshall (21), Oguchi Onweyu (23), Santino Quaranta (21), Jonathan Spector (19), and Zak Whitbread (21).
Not to be outdone, there are several players under 20 that may get a look such as Freddie Adu (16), Benny Feilhaber (20), Lee Nguyen (20), and Marvell Wynne (19). Throw in several more players in the Under-17 team who did well earlier in Peru this year.
The future looks bright. It doesn’t mean the US will win the World Cup one day although it is not an impossibility. What it means is the team is going to be competitive. With more players playing in the top leagues in Europe and better athletes joining the ranks of professional soccer, the future looks bright indeed for US Soccer.
