Tour de Peninsula
My friend Ryan and I completed the 33 mile bike ride of the Tour de Peninsula today. The ride started at 8:30am, although we didn’t officially leave the starting gate until 8:50am. There were approximately 2500 riders and it took a while to get everyone started. Two hours and forty minutes later we crossed the finish line at around 11:30am.
The route contained some very challenging hills particularly Ralston Avenue in Belmont. It’s fairly steep hill that goes on for about a mile. The ride also went over scenic areas of Canada Road and the Sawyer Camp Trail overlooking Crystal Springs Reservoir.
Registration was $40 with proceeds going to the San Mateo Parks and Recreation. We received a T-shirt, a water bottle and few goodies at the end of the race. The organizers did a great job of feeding the riders. Bananas, oranges, plums, power bars, biscotti and water were available in two official rest stops.
Overall, an excellent ride with enough challenges for both amateurs and seasoned riders.
