Linux Phones
Motorola plans to use Linux on its mid-range phones. Motorola began selling high-end Linux powered phones back in 2003. The E895 will be the first mid-range Motorola phone to use the open source operating system. The lightweight Linux operating system is used to manage the phone’s basic software, lower level management, power and memory management. For the phone’s application, Motorola uses Java software licensed from Sun. Linux phones have many competitions mainly from Motorola’s own P2K, Microsoft’s Windows Mobile as well as Symbian.
