Microsoft Offers Spyware Program

Shares of Symantec and McAffee are down 6% and 4% respectively when Microsoft announced the release of its anti-spyware program. The beta program will be offered free to help remove worms and viruses from computers running Windows XP operating system. Spyware accounts to one-third of the computer crashes on Microsoft XP.

Competition is always good. I paid $49 for Norton Antivirus software from Symantec last year. I thought the price was a bit high, but definately worth the price considering what the software can do. This would only drive the price down to reasonable levels. Would I buy a Microsoft product? Probably not, but for spyware to cost absolutely nothing, the price is right.
