I’m back online
I had to turn off this blogger for a day or two due to spam. Several bots were posting hundreds of comments about online casinos. It was out of control, so I password protected the directory and redirected users to a temp page, then I went looking around online for a solution.
I found a WordPress plugin called AuthImage. The plugin works by displaying an text image requiring the commenter to enter the text in order for their comment to go through. This method is called a CAPTCHA short for “completely automated public Turing test to tell computers and humans apart.”
It is a type of challenge-response test needed to determine robots from humans. Bots can’t read text images posted on the screen, so that’s how bots are defeated. Yea, the bots have been terminated. Well, not quite. But hopefully, life in the blogosphere will be back to normal again.
