Surf Wars
I was surfing at the “Hook” at Santa Cruz on Friday and I saw the worst localism in 10 years I have been surfing the frigid waters of Santa Cruz. This redhead just lost it after several people were in his way when he was riding a wave.
He was screaming obscenities directed at everyone in what seemed like 15 minutes. Them he started picking on this guy who was talking to his girlfriend. The guy didn’t like it, so he paddled over to confront the guy.
His girlfriend quickly went in between the two guys while others watched in amazement. Three or four guys came over to the defense of the girl. It got so bad that the girlfriend even climbed on the redhead’s back.
For a minute there, the whole scene was rather funny and amusing. Then the redhead started cussing the girl even calling her the dreaded “c” word. It was so bad. It would have been a really ugly scene if any of those guys challenged the redhead guy.
In the end, the whole situation was not even worth all the aggravation and anger because the surf was even that great. I guess, the small summer surf has everyone is on the edge. Everything will be fine as soon as the first swell comes around in November.
