Doing the Math
Here’s the skinny on the salary cap. NFL teams have $80.6 million dollars to spend for its players this year, 2004. The Niners have already committed $26 million (dead money) to players no longer with the team. This accounts to about a third of the total salary.
That leaves them with just $54 million spread around 45 or so players. Sounds like a problem? It doesn’t seem to bother the Raiders across the Bay. I’m not sure how they do their accounting, unless they hired Anderson to do some magic tricks.
