Saudi Arabia Lifts Bans
I applaud Saudi Arabia’s new stance against Islamic extremism. The Saudi government has lifted a ban that has kept women in fields normally off limits to most. The move is seen as a boost to the Saudi economy and a step towards defeating Islamic extremism in the oil rich kingdom state.
Previously, women can only get commercial licenses through a male relative. There are several religious and social restrictions that prevent women from working in fields but in the teaching and nursing professions.
This ban will help ease the economic and social pressures from men who can no longer meet the economic needs of the their families. This is a step in the right direction, but more changes are expected to turn the tide against Islamic extremism.
