60th Anniversary of D-Day
Today, marks the 60th anniversary of D-Day. 60 years ago, Allied troops invaded German occupied France on the beaches of Normandy symbolically marking the shift of the war in Europe.
Allied troops lead by American forces entually reclaimed France and defeated Nazi Germany several months later. The invasion took incredible secrecy, effort and coordination in the part of Allied planners.
Germany knew an invation was imminent, but never expected it would be in Normandy on June 6, 1944. Today, an invasion the likes of D-Day is not possible because of technology, intelligence and media coverage. Critical to the success of D-Day was its secrecy.
