North Korea Bans Cell Phones

North Korea has banned the used of all cell phones after introducing it a year and a half a go. The seclusive North Korean government has not given an explanation as to why its citizens could no longer use mobile phones.

There’s an estimated 20,000 cell phone subscribers in North Korea. One newspaper speculated that it might have been the result of a failed attempt to kill the North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.

Security officials believed a cell phone was used to detonate a bomb that caused a train wreck several weeks ago and the North Korean leader might have been the target.

Yesterday, you will find no one talking on a cell phone on the streets of the capital of Pyongyang. Instead, many are officials and travel agents are lining up to use phone booths. Interesting! Why stop there?

I can see the future, North Korea has decided to ban the use of backpacks, briefcases, clocks, warehouses and automobiles for no apparent reason. Local media has speculated that these items might be used to trigger and store explosives.

In the meantime, the government has discouraged its citizens from gathering in public places for fear of uprising and a possible coup’ de etat. The good news is the ban of cell phones have been lifted, but cell phones have been retrofited with a GPS device to track its citizens every move.
