Another Super Bore

Another Super Bowl, another super blowout. Was there anything exciting about Super Bowl 37? It was eerily quiet for much of the game at Scores in San Mateo last night where 400 people showed up to watch the Oakland Raiders battle the Tampa Bay Bucanneers. The crowd thinned out quickly after the game. Twenty minutes later, the bar was practically empty.

Was this a Super Bowl to remember? Not if you are a Raiders fan. It was one sided for much of the game. Not much to cheer about in the Bay Area sports bars last night. Even the Super Bowl commercials were too bland. A few stood out. The “Instant Replay” and “Date Both of Us” from Budweiser, the “Clown” and “Dog Dreds” from Bud Light. What would we do without the beer commercials.

What is up with the riots in Oakland? The Tampa celebration was mild compared to what happened in Oakland last night. Oakland police had to come out with their riot gears, rubber bullets, and tear gas canisters. Far too many drunks were arrested. Some predicted that it would have been worst if the Raiders won. It’s just a game, folks. Go on with your merry lives.

I had a drunk try to shove me to a girl while walking down the hallway at Scores. I must admit the girl was gorgeous, but that is beside the point. Then, he told me to “grab that sh*t.” I said to myself, this is not how to treat a lady. So, I turned around and said, “What is wrong with you?” He could have pelted me right there and then, but I knew he was too drunk to fight. I could have nudged him and he would have keeled over. Funny.

What happens to the Raiders next year? I hear from experts that the Raiders team this year’s team was built to win a Super Bowl. Didn’t quite work out that way. The Raiders are $50 million over the salary cap next year. Hmmm, I see renegotiation of contracts and some veterans with their walking papers. Then there’s the question about age. How long can some of these players keep playing? Now, the Raiders have to deal with salary cap hell. Just ask the team across the bay what they went through.

I guess Gruden had the last laugh. His familiarity with his former team was a big factor to the outcome of the game. Tampa Bay had a great gameplan and they executed better than the Raiders. And who can argue against the saying that “great defense win championships.” It didn’t help either that Gannon had a horrible game. Plus there was a bizarre incident from the Raiders the day before the Super Bowl. The Raiders are keeping a tight lip on what exactly happened to Robbins.

Well, another Super Bowl, another blowout.
